EMPATH™

Measured signals
Three-phase current and voltage
Selection objective
Assess machine, load and supply conditions together
Operation
Portable periodic measurements or permanent monitoring with EMPATH CMS™

Features and diagnostic benefits

  • Three-phase current and voltage: assess the supply together with machine and load conditions.
  • Supply assessment: use phase balance, voltage conditions and power quality information alongside current data.
  • Automated primary analysis and trending: display time waveforms and frequency components, then compare stored measurements from the same asset.
  • Equipment information: register motor and bearing information to support interpretation using machine configuration and operating conditions.

EMPATH™ acquires data and performs automated primary analysis within 60 seconds. This excludes connection preparation, the engineer’s analysis for a final assessment, and reporting.

System configuration

  • Current clamps and voltage probes
  • Data acquisition and signal conditioning unit
  • Analysis software and PC

TRIPOD proposes current clamps and voltage probes and an analysis PC configuration suited to your equipment and measurement environment. Simultaneous acquisition of three-phase current and voltage supports phase comparisons and supply assessment. The photo shows an example configuration.

Suitable applications

Assess motors, generators and connected equipment such as pumps, fans and gearboxes. Applicability and measurement points are determined from the equipment configuration and operating conditions.

From measurement to assessment

  1. Identify the equipment, measurement points and operating conditions.
  2. Connect the current clamps and voltage probes, instrument and PC according to the site’s safety procedures.
  3. Enter the required equipment information and measurement settings.
  4. Acquire current and voltage while the equipment is operating and review the automated primary analysis.
  5. An engineer evaluates the results against the operating conditions and equipment configuration.

Concept videos illustrating an EMPATH™ measurement configuration. TRIPOD provides guidance on actual connections and procedures for your instruments and equipment. Connection preparation and data acquisition while equipment is operating are separate stages. Electrical connection work must be performed by qualified personnel following the site’s safety procedures.

Setup: identify measurement points → connect current clamps and voltage probes → connect the instrument and PC.
Measurement at the MCC: acquire signals on the supply side → assess the results using equipment information and operating conditions. The 300 m shown is an example distance.

Related products | Permanent monitoring and measurement connections

EMPATH CMS™ is a permanent monitoring system that acquires and analyzes data at configured intervals. ECMS-01 / ECMS-E1 monitor a single asset; ECMS-32 supports up to 32 assets. TRIPOD proposes a configuration based on equipment count, MCC layout and communication requirements.

Photos show example configurations. Hardware differs between single-asset and multi-asset systems. Selection considers the installation environment, measurement points and communication requirements.

Initial E-Plug™ installation requires connection work inside the cabinet. Installation and measurement must follow the site’s safety procedures.
