Features and diagnostic benefits

  • Highly compact configuration: portable measurement equipment and current clamps support walkaround measurements across multiple assets.
  • Measure current from one phase: perform MCSA using a waveform from one phase of a three-phase machine.
  • No voltage measurement connection: simplify preparation and equipment by omitting voltage probes and their wiring.
  • Assess machine condition from current waveforms: interpret indications of electrical and mechanical anomalies in motors, generators and connected equipment against machine information and operating conditions.

System configuration

  • Current clamp
  • Signal conditioning and data acquisition equipment
  • Analysis software and PC

TRIPOD advises on measurement equipment, current clamps and software according to the measurement target and operating method.

Suitable applications

Consider EMPOWER™ when assessing motors, generators and connected equipment using current waveforms. Applicability depends on machine type, load, operating speed and current measurement points. Assessment requiring measured voltage or comparisons between all three phases needs a different measurement configuration.

From measurement to assessment

  1. Identify the equipment, current measurement points and operating conditions.
  2. Connect the current clamp and measurement equipment according to the site’s safety procedures.
  3. Acquire current waveforms while the equipment is operating.
  4. Review and analyze the data in the software.
  5. Assess the results using the equipment configuration and operating conditions.

TRIPOD provides connection guidance for the selected equipment configuration.

Discuss introduction and operation

We review equipment, operating conditions and symptoms of interest to determine measurement points and configuration. We also define in-house measurement and analysis tasks and the assistance required from TRIPOD.
